Listen to Flying Lotus’ surreal new single ‘Fire is Coming’, featuring David Lynch

It's taken from new album 'Flamagra'

Flying Lotus has today released a surreal new single, ‘Fire is Coming’, taken from his upcoming new album ‘Flamagra’. The track also features Twin Peaks creator David Lynch.

The album, the first for the LA artist in five years, was described in a press release as “an astral afro-futurist masterpiece of deep soul, cosmic dust, and startling originality.”

It added: “The Warp release encompasses hip-hock, funk, soul, jazz, global dance music, tribal poly-rhythms, IDM [and] the L.A. Beat scene.”

You can listen to the new single here:

Speaking about the new album, Lotus – real name Steven Ellison – said: “I’d been working on stuff for the past five years, but it was always all over the place. I’d always had this thematic idea in mind—a lingering concept about fire, an eternal flame sitting on a hill.”

He continued: “Some people love it, some people hate it. Some people would go on dates there and some people would burn love letters in the fire.”

Lotus also revealed an illustrious list of collaborators who will appear on his album, namely Anderson .Paak, George Clinton, Little Dragon, Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, David Lynch, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat, Toro y Moi, Solange and more.

Last month, the musician teased a return with a mysterious message being spotted inked on the pavement at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The image read, “Fire is coming… Flying Lotus.”

His last album – ‘You’re Dead!’ – was released in 2014. NME labelled it ‘madly inventive’ in a four-star review and said it “takes hip-hop and jazz as starting points, beats them both to death and then brings them back to life in an almost unrecognisable form.”
