‘Always Ascending’ was the title track and first single from their fifth studio album – their first in five years – which is out tomorrow (February 9).

“In terms of the sound, the song is quite representative of the whole record,” Kapranos told NME.
“This one sounds quite different from our previous records – it’s a bit wider and less of a ‘straight up guitar’ album. It’s just a taster. There are many more surprises to come.”
In May 2017, Franz Ferdinand revealed their new-look band line-up following the departure of founding member Nick McCarthy last year.
McCarthy left the band after 14 years back in July 2016, with Franz Ferdinand confirming that he wouldn’t be taking part in either the recording or touring of their next album. The guitarist thanked the band’s fans “for being such an inspiration over the years” in an accompanying statement.

The band’s upcoming UK and Ireland tour dates are below, where they’ll be supported by Albert Hammond Jr.
