Listen to James Blake cover Don McLean’s ‘Vincent’

The 'American Pie' singer has responded to the new version on Twitter

James Blake has recorded a cover of Don McLean‘s tribute to Vincent Van Gogh, ‘Vincent’.

The London musician recently previewed new material at a handful of US West Coast dates, while he is reported to have also performed this cover at those shows.

You can listen to Blake’s new version of the classic below. He also recorded a live video of the cover at Los Angeles’ Conway Studios yesterday (December 23), which can be viewed here.

McLean has responded to the cover on Twitter, praising Blake’s talent. “Just listened to @jamesblake version of my song ‘Vincent’ and I’m struck but what an extraordinarily good musician he is,” he wrote. “His singing and piano playing are superb.. Thank you James for recording my song so beautifully.”

Earlier this year, Blake appeared on a bonus track from Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’ album. He features on a track called ‘ManyFacedGod’, which was released alongside another bonus track called ‘Blue’s Freestyle/My Family’ that features the rapper’s daughter Blue Ivy.

Blake will join Kendrick Lamar as a support act on his upcoming UK and European arena tour. The run of dates kicks off in Dublin on February 7, before concluding in Berlin on March 5.
