Pale Waves kick off the festive season with cover of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’

It's bringing a dark side to Christmas..

Pale Waves have sparked an early beginning to the festive season by releasing their own cover of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’.

The Manchester band have recorded their own take on the track for Spotify’s Singles series, but it’s a world away from George Michael’s trademark festive delivery.

Instead, it sees Pale Waves bringing their own brand of synth-heavy goth pop, providing an unexpectedly darkened edge.

It’s also one of the first new releases from the group since they released debut album ‘My Mind Makes Noises’ back in September. In a four star review, NME described it as an “impressive, deft debut”.

“Given that it documents a romantic life that’s apparently hurtling out of control, ‘My Mind Makes Noises’ makes for a remarkably trim and measured collection of songs. Both hands are on the wheel, and this album will crank things up a gear for Pale Waves”, our review stated.

Next year, Pale Waves will also head out on tour with The 1975. The Manchester groups will hit the road next January for shows at some of the country’s biggest venues – including London’s O2 Arena.  You can buy tickets here.
