The track, which was first teased earlier this year, features on the YouTube star’s newly released album ‘Am I A Girl?’ Upon first listen, it appears to be one of Poppy’s most experimental offerings to date – beginning with hard rock guitars that eventually make way for a bubblegum pop chorus.
Later in the track, it takes a sinister turn as Poppy remarks “It’s time to die”, moments before a heavy metal guitar solo. Check out the track in full below.
Speaking to NME earlier this month, Poppy confirmed that she had worked on two tracks with Grimes – with the collaboration emerging after the pair messaged each other on Twitter.
“She followed me on Twitter, then I sent her a message and said ‘hi, I like you. We should make a song together’. Then we made a couple of songs together actually. She’s really talented”, Poppy explained.
Hailing the influence of Grimes on the record, she added: “It’s really great that she’s one of few female producers that is actively doing it right now. It’s very respectable. She’s really good with synthesisers and we wanted to take the song in more of a heavy direction. She’s great at melodies. I write pop music a lot. It’s her element which is a lot more abstract.”
Poppy’s latest album, ‘Am I A Girl’, is released today (October 31).
