Mötley Crüe have covered Madonna‘s ‘Like a Virgin’ for the soundtrack of their upcoming band biopic The Dirt. You can take a listen to the cover below ahead of the film’s official release on Netflix on March 22.
It’s one of four new tracks the band recorded for the film. Speaking to Billboard about the Madonna cover, band member Nikki Sixx said at first he thought it was “a really horrible idea.”
Given the band’s reputation, Sixx added: “It was weird to hear Vince [Neil, frontman] singing ‘like a virgin’”.
Asked whether Madonna knew about Motley Crüe’s cover, Sixx said, “I don’t know. She will soon, I imagine. Maybe we can get her in the video.”
It’s not the first taste of the new Motley Crüe music recorded for the movie. Machine Gun Kelly, who will play drummer Tommy Lee in the film, appeared on the first track ‘The Dirt (Est. 1981)’.
The forthcoming film has not been without controversy. During the promotion of the film, Sixx apologised for a rape story that was published in the band’s memoirs of the same name, on which the film is based.
“I have no clue why it’s in there other than I was outta my head and it’s possibly greatly embellished or [I] made it up,” he said. “Those words were irresponsible on my part. I am sorry.”
