Listen to Sam Smith’s moving new song for ‘Watership Down’, ‘Fire on Fire’

He joins forces with songwriter Steve Mac and the BBC Concert Orchestra for the song

Sam Smith has shared a new song that features on the BBC and Netflix’s Watership Down adaptation.

The new song, titled ‘Fire on Fire’, was recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in September. Listen below.

Some of the lyrics in the track read: “Fire on fire / Would normally kill us / But this much desire / Together we’re winners / They say that we’re out of control And some say we’re sinners.”

The latest Watership Down series is a Noam Murro-directed adaptation of Richard Adams’ award-winning novel about a pack of rabbits. Netflix broadcasts the miniseries this Sunday, December 23.

In a statement, Smith said: “I am so excited and honoured to be a part of this new adaptation of Watership Down.

“This story is so powerful and timeless, and it has been thrilling to work with director Noam Murro and his team and the incredible Steve Mac on this song for it. I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”

Smith has worked on other soundtracks. In 2015, his song ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ was the theme for the James Bond film Spectre.

In recent months the singer has appeared on a couple of singles including Calvin Harris’ ‘Promises’ and Brandi Carlile’s ‘Party of One’.
