'As an accidental result of hanging around a lot, we all begun to make instrumental music together'
Former members of The Maccabees Hugo, Felix and Will White have teamed up with Charlie Cunningham for his new track ‘Sink In’.
The trio perform on keyboards, electric guitar and bass alongside the Oxford singer-songwriter. ‘Sink In’ was produced alongside Sam Scott and Duncan Tootil. You can listen to the track below.
“I first met Charlie by introduction, as the only person I knew of anywhere who played flamenco guitar. They’re not that common in Peckham,” Felix White told NME. “He very patiently came round to mine every two weeks and taught me for a while. I still haven’t paid him for it, which I feel increasingly guilty about, because I learnt a lot about guitar playing in a very short space of time.

“As an accidental result of hanging around a lot, we all begun to make instrumental music together. A lot of it is still in the vaults somewhere, but it birthed beginnings of ‘Sink In’, when Charlie came in with the chord progression. Even then, without words, it was a really moving piece of music.
“We played on it really quickly, turning it into the slightly twisted and beautiful thing it is now! When I heard the full version, I was really impressed that he’d managed to retain all the good stuff whilst fleshing it out into the song it is. We’re very proud to have been involved.”
Last year, former Maccabees frontman Orlando Weeks returned to the stage to showcase his book and accompanying album, The Gritterman.
The Maccabees split after a farewell tour in 2017. They released four albums: ‘Colour It In’, ‘Wall Of Arms’, ‘Given To The Wild’ and their last album ‘Marks To Prove It’ which was released in July 2015.
