Listen to Zayn Malik’s funk-tinged and howling new single ‘Sour Diesel’

The latest new song to come from the former One Direction star

Zayn Malik has released his new single, ‘Sour Diesel’, after teasing new music.

The former One Direction singer put out his debut album ‘Mind Of Mine‘ in 2016. In a four-star review, NME said: “Zayn has clearly achieved his aim of making an album of sexy, credible pop-R&B. ‘Mind Of Mine’ is sumptuously produced and perfectly sung, with just enough intrigue.”

‘Sour Diesel’ is the first track to be taken from the follow-up and was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show earlier today (July 18). It features funk-tinged basslines and, towards the end, some howling vocal runs. Listen to the track below.

Last month, Malik told fans his second album was “on the way” and added that there would be a “few surprises” on the record. After completing the LP, he said: “It’s a bit different to my last record in terms of it’s matured, [I’ve] got a bit older. I didn’t know what was going on for a while. I was just putting out a record and not really being as prominent as I wanted to be.”

‘Sour Diesel’ is the latest of a string of tracks that could appear on Malik’s second album. It joins ‘Entertainer’, ‘Let Me’, the PartyNextDoor-featuring ‘Still Got Time’, and Sia collaboration ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ in the musician’s latest releases.

At present, no details of the ‘Mind Of Mine’ follow-up have been released, including title, release date, or tracklist.
