Fans shy away from freezing Joburg Live Earth

Climate change blamed for big freeze out

Organisers of Live Earth Johannesburg are convinced climate change is to blame for the paltry turn-out at the Coca Cola Dome today (July 7).

Promoter John Langford claims it snowed last week for the first time in a quarter of a century, and the freezing conditions are keeping people away.

However it has also been argued that the South African leg of the concert, which opened with the Soweto Gospel Choir, has not been sufficiently publicised, reports BBC Newsp.

“We’re expecting 10,000 here tonight”, said Langford. “We’ve had a strange winter. Is it climate change? We had snow in Joburg last week for the first time in 25 years.”

Those who have turned up have been saw sets from Senegalese artist Baaba Maal, wile the line-up are Angelique Kidjo, Joss Stone and UB40.
