Genesis take to the stage at Live Earth

The bands get underway at Wembley Stadium

Genesis have played the opening band set at the London leg of Live Earth this afternoon (July 7).

The prog rockers followed the opening ceremony which featured an orchestra of drummers – including members of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen – called the SOS Allstars.

Introduced by Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles who jokingly tried to sell his car to the estimated television audience of 2 billion.

“Yo, good afternoon Wembley! Good afternoon the world really,” announced frontman-drummer Phil Collins ahead of the band’s track ’Land Of Confusion’. “This song is mildly appropriate for today.”

The band also included an instrumental and ‘Invisible Touch’ the latter of which saw Collins swearing during the song – despite the television audience – forcing host Moyles to apologise afterwards.

Live Earth continues at London with Razorlight on next, with performances coming from Bloc Party, Kasabian and Madonna among others.
