Lizzo has been cast in the upcoming stripper revenge movie Hustlers, according to reports.
The film will also see Cardi B in her first big-screen role, while Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, and more are all confirmed to be a part of the project.
Details of the role Lizzo is said to have signed on to play have yet to be revealed.
Hustlers is based on a 2015 New York magazine article about a group of strippers who conned rich Wall Street workers out of their money.
The movie is being directed by Lorene Scafaria (Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World), while Lopez, Adam McKay (Vice), and Will Ferrell are on board to produce. Filming is already underway in New York, with a release date currently planned for September 13.
Meanwhile, Lizzo released her first album on a major label last week. In a five-star review, NME said of ‘Cuz I Love You’: “[It’s clear that Lizzo is] not only the electric, complex pop star that the world wants – but also the one it needs.”
After some more negative reviews of the album were published, however, the star sparked debate by arguing that only musicians should review albums. “People who review albums and don’t make music themselves should be unemployed,” she wrote on Twitter, sparking an immediate backlash.
Lizzo later invited music journalists to “kick it in the studio with me for my next album”, saying she’d like to “understand your world as much as you can understand mine.” She also added that was going to “take my temper off the internet.”
