Young Fathers have released the powerful new video for ‘LORD’, the lead single from their next album. Check it out below.
The dark and gospel-driven track has been accompanied by a brooding video that sees the Mercury Prize winning group standing in the rain and riding on horseback as the track plays out.
Describing the video, singer Alloysius Massaquoi explained how it was driven by “an act of internal withdrawal”.
“For me, the video stemmed from… Like how do you describe an emotion, clearly and precisely when you’re completely immersed in it all?”, he said.
“An act of internal withdrawal from the outside world, when all you need from the outside world is for someone, anyone, to show they care.”
As well as recording their forthcoming third album, this year also saw Young Fathers releasing ‘Only God Knows’ for the Trainspotting 2 soundtrack.
Speaking to NME at the Ivor Novello awards in London, they said the song came about organically.
“We did it when we were out in LA,” Kayus Bankole told NME. “It just felt like it fit the whole vibe of the film, so we gave it to Danny [Boyle, director], and he put it just at the end sequence bit of the film. That’s it – it stands alone with the film.”
