Lorde postpones Australia tour after being ordered off the road by parents

Singer has chest infection and plans to reschedule shows for later in 2014

Lorde has been forced to postpone a tour of Australia after being ordered off the road by her parents on health grounds.

The 17 year-old singer was due to embark on a series of live shows in the country but has announced that the shows will now need to be rescheduled after her parents and team intervened to ensure her long term wellbeing.

Tweeting about the postponement, Lorde wrote: “I have had to postpone my Australian shows because of a nasty chest infection and general ill health. I am so so gutted to have to do this but my parents and my team stepped in telling me I needed a break after being non-stop since the Grammys in January. We will 100% be back for this tour (most likely in November) so don’t worry about that.”

The tweets continued:

Since January, when the Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles, Lorde has performed at a number of music festivals such as Coachella, and also joined Joan Jett, St Vincent and Kim Gordon in fronting Nirvana as part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Meanwhile, earlier this month (April 16) Lorde met the person who inspired her global hit ‘Royals’ – Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett. A picture of the baseball player in National Geographic magazine inspired Lorde to write the song.
