Pop star also performs cover of Son Lux's 'Easy' at Auckland event
The 16-year-old singer marked her return to her native country at Silo Park in Auckland with a set comprising of three covers as well as material from her debut album ‘Pure Heroine’, including the Number One hit ‘Royals’. In addition to the James Blake cover, Lorde also performed her take on newcomers Son Lux‘s track ‘Easy’ as well as The Replacements’ ‘Swinging Party’, a staple in her live set.
Lorde’s live performance came after she criticised the local press for being heavy handed upon her arrival in the country following her double Grammy Awards win. She took home the Song Of The Year gong at the Grammy Awards for ‘Royals’ and Best Pop Solo Performance on Sunday (January 26). She also performed at the event.
The 17-year-old singer took to Twitter to vent her anger after she returned to Auckland and claimed that she and her family were “almost pushed over” by the waiting press at the airport.
The singer, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, will perform with Disclosure at The Brit Awards in London next month.
