Watch tribute performances to Lou Reed from New York concert

Laurie Anderson, Anohni, Mark Kozelek and more took part in the event at Lincoln Center

Yesterday (July 30), New York’s Lincoln Center hosted a tribute concert for the late Lou Reed.

The Bells: A Daylong Celebration of Lou Reed featured performances of The Velvet Underground frontman’s love songs by the likes of Anohni, Mark Kozelek, Emily Haines, Reed’s widow Laurie Anderson and more.

Anderson programmed the event with Reed’s producer and friend Hal Willner. The day also included lessons with Reed’s tai chi master, an installation of six of Reed’s guitars playing feedback drones, screenings of films relating to Reed and daytime performances by his peers and some of the artists he influenced.

The latter included a house band that featured Sonic Youth‘s Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley, and more. Other guests included Lenny Kaye, Jesse Malin, JG Thirlwell and others.

Reed passed away on October 27 2013 due to liver disease. He had undergone liver transplant surgery in the months leading up to his death.
