A host of pals help out Reed on 'The Raven'...

David Bowie is to make a guest appearance on the new album from Lou Reed.

Titled ‘The Raven’, the album is Lou Reed‘s interpretation of the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe, and includes a reading of the poem of the same name by actor Willem Dafoe, as well as Lou Reed‘s own Poe-inspired lyrics.

The album is set for release in January, and Dafoe’s reading of ‘The Raven’ is available to listen to online now at www.loureed.org.

A long-time fan of the gothic American poet, Lou Reed has previously created a piece of musical theatre based around Poe’s work, which was performed in Hamburg, and last Halloween took part in the University of California’s annual Poe Invitational Halloween performance.

Lou Reed said when he got the chance to interpret Poe’s work in words and music he “surged towards it like a Rottweiler chasing a bloody bone.”
