Macklemore ‘blown away’ by MTV EMA success

Rapper collected Best Video prize for 'Downtown'

Macklemore has thanked fans after collecting an MTV European Music Award for his ‘Downtown’ video with Ryan Lewis.

The rapper was in Rome alongside musical partner Ryan Lewis on Sunday night (October 25) to collect the prize for Best Video for their 2015 effort, which shows the duo throwing a parade on a street in Seattle.

Reacting to the win, Mackemore said he was “blown away” with the accolade and thanked those involved with the video on Instagram as well as praising his fans.

The full message reads: “BEST VIDEO!?!? I am blown away. What an incredible night!!!… Thank you to the FANS WORLD WIDE!!!! To JKoe Photography for directing, Honna Kimmerer for producing and Massive Monkees for choreo and just overall killing shit. Everyone that worked on Downtown. Whole squad. You know who you are. Love to MTV. LETS GOOOOOI!!!!!”

Macklemore and Lewis will play a series of UK arena tour dates in April 2016.

The pair will release a new album later this year. The as-yet-untitled album will be the follow up to 2013’s ‘The Heist’ which featured hit singles ‘Same Love’ and ‘Thrift Shop’.

They will be back on the road in April next year with a tour that begins at Manchester Arena on April 12 and culminates at the end of the month at The O2 in London. The hip-hop duo will play dates in Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Nottingham and Birmingham in between.
