Madonna‘s famous conical bra has been sold for $51,971 (£32,450) at auction, according to reports.
The iconic garment – which was made famous by the Queen of Pop during her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour – fetched twice its estimated price when it went under the hammer at a music memorabilia auction at Christie’s earlier this week (November 29), says the Daily Star.
Other outfits worn by rock ‘n’ roll legends which were flogged off included a shirt worn by Beatles’ singer John Lennon, which was snapped up for $18,000 (£11,250), and a white jumpsuit belonging to Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, which had been expected to fetch roughly $19, 200 (£12,000) but sold for $32,000 (£20,000). The garment was sold just hours before Jagger and the rest of the Stones took to the stage for the band’s sold-out show at the O2 Arena in London.
Madonna, who recently revealed that her rival Lady Gaga rejected the chance to sing with her, has been in the headlines in recent weeks after a group of citizens in Russia attempted to sue her for promoting gay rights. The trial has since been thrown out of court, however – and according to reports, the legal proceedings became so farcical that the judge had to threaten to ban members of the press from the court room unless they stopped laughing.
More recently, meanwhile, Madonna was crowned as the biggest-selling female singles artist in UK chart history. New data from the Official Charts Company showed that she has shifted over 17.8 million singles in the UK since releasing her first track, ‘Holiday’, in 1984.
