Madonna booed for backing Obama at New Orleans gig

Fans walk out of singer's 'MDNA' tour in Louisiana

Madonna was last night (October 27) booed by fans at her gig in New Orleans for touting Barack Obama to win next month’s US Presidential election.

The ‘Material Girl’ singer was mid-way through her ‘MDNA’ tour gig at the New Orleans Arena when she asked the crowd “who’s registered to vote?”, reports The Associated Press.

She then added:

I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama.

After drawing a chorus of boos and a few walkouts, Madonna reigned in her support for the current US President by saying: “Seriously, I don’t care who you vote for…do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote.”

This is not the first time Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ tour has courted controversy. Earlier this month, the singer was criticised by her fans for brandishing a fake gun during her show in Denver.

The singer posed with a fake firearm during a gig at the city’s Pepsi Centre, prompting punters to complain about her insensitivity in light of the shootings which took place in nearby Aurora, Colorado at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in July.

Several fans left the show after being offended by Madonna’s performance of the song ‘Gang Bang’, in which she pretended to shoot a criminal while images of splattered blood were displayed on the stage backdrop.

Meanwhile, Madonna has been named as the biggest-selling female singles artist in UK chart history. New data from the Official Charts Company shows that the ‘Girl Gone Wild’ singer, often dubbed as the Queen Of Pop, has shifted over 17.8 million singles in the UK since releasing her first track, ‘Holiday’, in 1984.
