Madonna could be banned from the Philippines for ‘ridiculing’ flag

Singer angered local officials by wearing the national flag during her performance

Madonna has been criticised in the Philippines for allegedly disrespecting the national flag during her recent concerts in the country.

The singer is currently in the middle of her ‘Rebel Heart’ world tour, playing shows in the Philippines capital of Manila last Wednesday and Thursday (February 24-25).

Reuters reports that a historical commission official in the country has hit out at the performer for wearing the Philippines flag as part of her outfit.

“She ridiculed our flag,” Teodoro Atienza told local radio station dzBB, adding that Madonna violated the law in doing so and could be banned from the country. The concert promoters could also be implicated.

“They may face deportation and might not be able to return to the country. She also allowed the flag to touch the stage floor, which is another violation,” Atienza said.

Reports also stated that a Catholic bishop in the Philippines urged fans to boycott Madonna’s shows over her allegedly “suggestive” performances and “vulgar” outfits.

Meanwhile, Madonna has spent the past few months reaching out to her estranged son Rocco.

The legendary singer is currently embroiled in a custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over Rocco, with Madonna recently posting a picture of the 15-year old to express how much she’s missing him.

The Instagram post showed a smiling Rocco posing with a flower Lei around his neck, with Madonna accompanying the photo with the caption: “I miss this boy so full of life so full of love! I hope we see that Leo Sun soon. The light is blinding!”

It’s thought Madonna hasn’t seen Rocco for months, with the star posting an old selfie of herself and Rocco on Boxing Day last year amid claims he had moved to London to live with Ritchie after running away from her ‘Rebel Heart’ world tour.
