Madonna performed the cover in Houston on Tuesday night

The cover was performed last night (January 12) as her ‘Rebel Heart’ tour called at Houston’s Toyota Centre. Madonna sang and danced in front of a screen showing various images of Bowie from throughout his career.
“I want to pay tribute to a man who inspired my career,” Madonna said. “If you haven’t heard about David Bowie then look him up, motherfuckers. He was one of the geniuses in the music industry. One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century and he changed my life when I went to see him in concert in Detroit.
“He showed me that it was alright to be different. And he’s the first rebel heart that I laid eyes on.”
Madonna previously paid tribute to Bowie on her Facebook page, writing about her earlies memories of a man she would go on to accept a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction plaque for in 1996. “He was so chic and beautiful and elegant,” she wrote. “So ahead of his time. Thank you David Bowie. I owe you a lot. The world will miss you.”
Bowie passed away on Sunday (January 10) following an 18 month battle with cancer. Reports have since suggested that he “died from liver cancer” after “surviving six heart attacks”.
