Madonna buys $40 million New York home

She helps ailing economy with new house

Madonna has reportedly bought a new home in New York City, spending $40 million on the property.

The home is a four-storey Georgian mansion on East 81st Street with over 20 rooms, and was originally on the market for $5 million more.

According to a report in the New York Post, Madonna may regret the purchase as the house is located above the Lexington Avenue subway, and noise from the trains frequently irks residents.

The house has a large garden, nine fireplaces and a wine cellar as well as 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, and Madonna reportedly plans major renovations.

Recent tabloid reports say that she may build a home in Malawi after a judge ruled she could not adopt a second child from the country because she does not live there.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg this morning said that he would not be sending Madonna a thank you card for her purchase, but does “plan to send her a bill.”
