Madonna to perform Prince tribute at Billboard Music Awards

The singer will pay tribute to the late star at the awards ceremony

Madonna will pay homage to Prince at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

The singer is planning to honour the late star during her performance at the awards ceremony, which takes place on 22 May, Billboard reports.

Madonna is reportedly a big fan of Prince, having previously dedicated her set to the Purple One while playing in Minnesota in 2015.

The pop star also attended an intimate gig at Paisley Park last October. According to The Current, Madonna watched the performance sat at Prince’s feet, “looking up at him adoringly as he sang”.

Among the other performers set to perform at the awards show are Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, DNCE, Fifth Harmony, The Go-Go’s, Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes, Pink and Britney Spears, who will perform a medley of her hits. Celine Dion will be on hand to receive the ICON Award.

Prince passed away at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota last month (April 21), aged 57. Although a cause of death has not yet been announced, police have confirmed that they are looking into the possibility that Prince died from an overdose of prescription drugs. It was recently alleged that the painkiller Percocet was found in Prince’s system during an autopsy.
