Madonna denies adoption reports

But she is 'adopting entire country'

Madonna has denied reports she has adopted a child on her visit to Malawi.

On Wednesday (October 4), government officials told reporters the singer had chosen the boy she adopted from a group of twelve children chosen from four orphanages in the city.

However, Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg denied this, saying: “Despite reports stating otherwise, she has not adopted a baby boy.”

She added that the singer was not looking to adopt, but was on a charitable visit.

“There is no paperwork being finalized,” she said. “She is visiting orphanages and totally involved in the building of a new orphanage and other initiatives to help the children of Malawi whose parents have died from the AIDS epidemic. So she is adopting an entire country of children.”

The singer has stated that she has committed $3 million to an initiative called Raising Malawi to help orphans in the country.

The orphan centre will be based in Mphandula, and aims to feed and educate 1,000 children a day.

Madonna is also planning to give all the proceeds from her next children’s book, ’The English Roses : Too Good To Be True’, due out on October 23, to the Raising Malawi project.
