Madonna enlists comedian Amy Schumer as support at New York gigs

The 'Inside Amy Schumer' star will open up three gigs this September

Madonna has announced plans for comedian Amy Schumer to support her at her forthcoming New York gigs.

Schumer – who is the star of comedy series Inside Amy Schumer – will open up for Madonna at Madison Square Garden on September 16 and 17 and at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on September 19. Schumer announced the news via Twitter, posting a video of her as a child singing ‘Like A Prayer’.

Madonna was recently forced to move the first five dates of her ‘Rebel Heart’ world tour to January 2016 after admitting the live show was not yet ready.

Two dates in Miami (August 29-30) plus gigs in Atlanta (September 2) and San Juan in Puerto Rico (September 5-6) were affected by the decision and will now take place next year.

In a statement published by Rolling Stone, Madonna explained the reasons behind the delay: “As my fans already know, the show has to be perfect. Assembling all the elements will require more time than we realized. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause my fans. I can promise you this show will be worth the wait. Can’t wait to share it with all my Rebel Hearts out there.”

The Rebel Heart Tour was announced in March, will see Madonna support the release of her thirteenth studio album of the same name.

The singer will play in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow in December. The UK dates mark Madonna’s return to London’s O2 Arena for the first time since falling at February’s Brit Awards, an incident she recently described as “the most embarrassing moment of my life”.

The tour will also see Madonna visit Southeast Asia for the first time ever and Australia for the first time since 1990. She will be working with Arthur Fogel, the man behind her Sticky & Sweet, Confessions and Re-Invention tours.
