MADONNA is planning to release a mega-hits collection – including her favourite tracks and new songs – for a Christmas release, according to reports this morning (July 19).

The Sun newspaper quotes a source close to the queen of pop as saying that the definitive Greatest Hits collection will “blow other Christmas releases out of the water”.

It is being speculated that, riding on the crest of Madonna-mania that swamped Europe on her recent sold-out tour and about to embark on the US leg of her ‘Drowned World’ jaunt, the as-yet-untitled album could match the phenomenal sales of The Beatles‘ Greatest Hits package ‘1’. It has sold 22 million copies to date and topped the charts worldwide.

The last compilation of Madonna hits, ‘The Immaculate Collection’, released 11 years ago, sold three-and-a-half million copies in the UK alone.

In other news, the star has been named in a court case involving an alleged prostitution racket run by the Mafia through a Atlanta nightclub.

Owner of The Gold Club, Steve Kaplan, is one of six people facing charges of offering sex-for-sale to high-spending customers at the strip club.

According to a report in the Daily Star newspaper today (July 19), the club’s former VIP manager George Kontos claims that Madonna was among the club’s visitors, and once asked if she could leave the club with a dancer called “Baby”.

However, in an interview with an Atlanta newspaper, her spokesperson has denied the claims, saying she hadn’t visited Georgia in “years and years, so I don’t think it could have happened,” and added: “I don’t know if it’s anything Madonna would be ashamed of, by the way.”
