The Aussie dance band's sample of 'Holiday' has been cleared by Mrs Ritchie...

MADONNA‘s first ever hit single is set to earn her an unexpected royalties payout thanks to Australian dance act THE AVALANCHES, NME.COM can reveal.

Seventeen years after ‘Holiday’ was first released, it is now likely to earn Madonna even more royalties because a sample from the song appears on The Avalanches album ‘Since I Left You’.

The instrumental sample from ‘Holiday’ appears on the album track ‘Stay Another Season’.

“We were told that Madonna went into her office with the CD, listened to it and then said the band could use the sample. They never expected to use it but they were really pleased she let them do it”, said a spokeswoman for The Avalanches.

The Avalanches album is released on April 16 through XL, and NME.COM has learned that a UK tour is planned for the summer. Darren Seltsman from the band told NME.COM: “It’s quite a strange live show.”
