Singing nun who won Italy’s ‘The Voice’ covers Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’

Sister Cristina Scuccia won the TV talent show in June

A singing nun who recently won the Italian version of TV talent show ‘The Voice’ has chosen to cover Madonna for her debut single.

Following her contest win in June, Sister Cristina Scuccia will now release ‘Like A Virgin’, originally recorded by the US singer in 1984 for her album of the same name. A video accompanying the track, which has been turned into gospel ballad, is now streaming online.

Despite the controversy of a nun singing such a suggestive track, Scuccia says that she’s “without any intention to provoke or shock”.

“It’s a song about the ability of love to make people new. To redeem them from their past. And that’s how I wanted to interpret it,” she told Catholic newspaper Avvenire.

“I’d love to see [Madonna’s] face when she [hears the track] and when they tell her it’s a nun singing,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Madonna is expected to release a new album shortly. Alt-pop musician Ariel Pink claimed to have been working on the release, but Madonna’s manager said that she’s never heard of him.
