The track will feature in Major Lazer’s forthcoming cartoon series – also called Major Lazer – that is set to air on US TV network Fox next year. The song finds Koenig singing from the perspective of meat-shunning vampire Ryland. “I would never bite you,” he says. “I would never bite anybody. I may be a vampire, but I’m also a vegan.”

Major Lazer were originally supposed to receive a TV deal for their cartoon in 2011, for the station Adult Swim, but the project failed to come to fruition. However, it was revealed earlier this year that the project had been revived by Fox, and that musicians including Cat Power and RiFF RAFF were set to contribute to the soundtrack.

Koenig also teamed up with Major Lazer for their 2013 album ‘Free The Universe’, appearing on the song ‘Jessica’. Other high-profile collaborators on the LP included Santigold, Haim, Peaches, Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors, Wyclef Jean, Ms Dynamite and Shaggy.

More recently, meanwhile, Major Lazer producer Diplo has been working with Madonna on her new album. Speaking about their collaboration, he said: “I met Madonna because of her kids and then she invited me to a party. We ended up writing seven songs together. I do not usually feel pressured to write hits, but when it’s an artist of this caliber, it’s obvious that I want to push the boundaries a little bit further and surpass myself. One of the songs we wrote is very cool and is called ‘Bitch, I’m Madonna’.”

The LP, which is the follow-up to 2012’s ‘MDNA’, is scheduled for a 2015 release.
