Richey Edwards’ family ‘won’t rest until he’s found’

Manic Street Preachers man's sister says 'she has a residue of hope' that he is still alive

The sister of Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards has said her family won’t rest until he is found.

Edwards, who went missing in 1995 on the eve of the band’s US tour, has not been found or heard from since.

“Some days I feel a residue of hope that he may still be alive, others I just know deep down he’s gone,” his sister Rachel Elias told the South Wales Echo. “All I know is he wouldn’t have meant to leave this dark cloud hanging over anyone, but until he’s found – alive or dead – we can’t rest.”

Edwards‘ car was found abandoned in an M4 service station car park near the Severn Bridge, a notorious suicide spot, prompting many to assume he had taken his own life.

“Just before the day he vanished he’d been talking to me and our dad about a song the band had been asked to write for a forthcoming Judge Dredd film,” she explained. “He was really excited about that.”

In 2008, the guitarist was legally declared presumed dead.
