FOOTBALL IDEA PITCHED TO MANICS, CATATONIA

The local bands are tipped to spruce up the forthcoming Wales v Armenia World Cup qualifier...

CATATONIA and the MANIC STREET PREACHERS could be making a pre-match appearance at CARDIFF MILLENNIUM STADIUM at the start of the next football season, NME.COM can reveal.

The Football Association Of Wales is to consider asking one of the Welsh bands to play a short set before September’s match between Wales and Armenia. Soccer bosses reckon supporters might need something extra to draw them to

the 62,000-seat venue.

FAW general secretary David Collins said: “It would be a huge boost for our younger fans especially to enjoy a concert like that. The pop concert idea is one we will be putting forward at the next council meeting.”

Both bands have already performed at the stadium. The Manics made history with their Millennium Eve gig, and Catatonia performed ‘International

Velvet’ from the centre spot at the opening ceremony.

Catatonia will next play in Wales at the Party In The Park event at Cardiff Castle on July 14 – the same night that Robbie Williams plays the stadium. This weekend (June 17), the famous retractable roof will be lifted by Bon Jovi.
