The Manic Street Preachers are planning a millennium gig in Cardiff according to the Western Mail, despite being unable to get support from other Welsh bands. Catatonia‘s guitarist Owen Powell was quoted as having said that they couldn’t imagine a worse place to be than a rugby stadium on New Year’s Eve. It is still hoped that the Stereophonics will feature.
The band’s spokeswoman Terri Hall confirmed that the gig is being planned but that the line-up is far from being finalised.
“Something special is being planned,” she said. “I can’t really say anymore about it right now, but we should be announcing more in September.”

Meanwhile the planned concert at the Millennium Dome in London has still to announce a line-up; according to a report in the Evening Standard, the only act confirmed is Jools Holland. The organisers are understood to be trying to get Robbie Williams to perform ‘Millennium’ just after midnight.
