MANICS STAR TAKES ROADBUILDING PLANS TO THE WIRE

This is the same guy who suggested building a bypass through Glastonbury...

MANIC STREET PREACHERS bassist NICKY WIRE is backing a campaign fighting plans to build a road through one of his childhood haunts.

According to this morning’s Sun newspaper (December 15), Wire is unhappy at plans to build a road through St David’s Wood near his childhood hometown of Blackwood, Wales.

The road, which will form an access route to a business park, is said to cost in the region of £25 million and will cut through the ancient Gwent woodland – which attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Wire’s most famous contribution to the debate on the environment came in 1994, when surveying the Somerset countryside during an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, said: “I say build more bypasses over this shithole.”
