Manic Street Preachers debut two new songs as UK tour begins – watch

Band preview 11th studio album at Leeds First Direct Arena

Manic Street Preachers played two new songs as they began their UK tour in Leeds last night (March 28).

The band played new songs ‘Europa Geht Durch Mich’ and ‘Futurology’ at the First Direct Arena, the first of a string of live shows scheduled to continue into April. Scroll up to watch the band perform ‘Europa Geht Durch Mich’ while fan shot footage of ‘Futurology’ can be found below.

Both songs come from the band’s forthcoming new album ‘Futurology’, which will be the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Rewind The Film’.

Speaking previously about ‘Futurology’ to NME, James Dean Bradfield said: “It’s a lot spikier and shinier. It’s much more band-based, a tiny bit of krautrock influence. It’s not like ‘The Holy Bible’ but there’s a bit of the same intent and threat. Lyrically, it’s got a European fascination. The landscape of Europe, the malaise of Europe, the malaise of us Brits not feeling part of it. We’re not talking like the Tories, don’t worry – there’s not a song where we opt out of Europe. The lead track is me singing half in English and half in German.”

Manic Street Preacher’s tour continues in Cardiff tonight (March 29). Tweeting after the Leeds show, bass player Nicky Wire shared the physical effects of an energetic gig.
