The classic bands are the first names to be announced for the July event
The one-day festival will return to Nottingham’s Wollaton Park on July 20 for its 11th year.
“With an outstanding back catalogue of over 20 combined UK top 10 hits, we’re delighted to announce that Manic Street Preachers and The Specials will headline this year’s Splendour Festival on Saturday 20th July!” read a statement on the official Splendour website about the two headliners.
The family-friendly festival will confirm more names for this year’s edition soon. Tickets for Splendour 2019 are on sale now: for more information, visit the Splendour website.
Manic Street Preachers premiered a new film about the band on YouTube earlier this month. Truth & Memory featured never-before-seen footage and was directed by the group’s long-time collaborator Kieran Evans, telling the story of their landmark 1998 album ‘This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours’.
Meanwhile, The Specials released a lyric video for their new single ’10 Commandments’ yesterday (January 24). The track features the voice of activist Saffiyah Khan who shot to online fame after confronting an EDL activist in Birmingham.
The legendary 2 Tone group will release a new album, ‘Encore’, on February 1. As well as new material, the record will feature a cover of The Equals’ ‘Black Skinned Blue-Eyed Boys’ and a version of ‘Blam Blam Fever’.
