Mansun played their first gig in nearly a year last night (July 31) at BURY ST EDMONDS CORN EXCHANGE.
The gig was a warm-up for the band’s forthcoming performance at the Summersonic Festival in Japan and V2000 festivals at Chelmsford and Staffordshire on August 19 and 20.
The show coincided with the release of Mansun‘s new single ‘I Will Only Disappoint U’, out yesterday through Parlophone, the band’s first single since ‘Six’ in January 1999.
Supported by King Adora, the band seemed genuinely pleased to be back, with singer Paul Draper – sporting a new short haircut – chatting animatedly between songs. The set comprised: ‘Take It Easy Chicken’, ‘I Can Only Disappoint U’, ‘Being A Girl’, ‘Everyone Must Win’, ‘Comes As No Surprise’, ‘Stripper Vicar’, ‘Special/Blown It’, ‘Electric Man’, ‘Love Is’, ‘Wide Open Space’, ‘She Makes My Nose Bleed’, ‘Taxloss’.
For the encore the band played ‘Drastic Sturgeon’ from their second single ‘Two EP’, which featured ‘Take It Easy Chicken’.
Mansun release their new album ‘Little Kix’ on August 14 through Parlophone, and play Colchester Arts Centre tonight (August 1), which will be webcast live on the band’s official site, [url=]www.mansun.com, starting around 9pm.
