MANSUN SET TO JOIN MANICS

Paul Draper and co hint at support slot...

Mansun are lined up to support Manic Street Preachers at their Manic Millennium gig at Cardiff Millennium Stadium on December 31.

Other bands strongly tipped to play include Super Furry Animals and Feeder.

Although no official line-up has been announced, Mansun bassist Stove King told fans last week (October 12) that they had been approached and were currently finalising details.

He said: “This hasn’t yet been confirmed, but please, watch this space!”

Stove added that the band were spending another week in the studio working on the follow-up to their last album ‘Six’.

After that, singer Paul Draper and guitarist Dominic Chad were going to spend a few weeks concentrating on writing the final songs for the as-yet-untitled album.

Stove was speaking via the band’s official information line on the band’s official website.

A spokesperson for both the Manics and Mansun declined to say who was in the frame to play the gig, and simply said: “No acts have been announced yet.”

Almost half the tickets for the Manics‘ 54,000-capacity New Year’s Eve gig have been sold, just two weeks after going on sale.

It will be the Manics‘ first and last performance of 2000 and their biggest to date. The full line-up for the event, which runs from 6pm on December 31 until 2am on January 1, will be announced shortly.
