Marc Almond has described his recent motorcycle accident as “a truly humbling and life-changing experience”.

The chart-topping star, who suffered serious head injuries in a motorbike accident last month, spent more than three weeks in hospital.

In a statement on his official website [url=], Almond, 48, thanked fans for “so many fantastic messages of support and love”.

“I am still overwhelmed,” said Almond. “The messages lifted my spirits, which at times have been very low.”

Fans inundated his website with messages and sent flowers, cards and gifts to east London’s Royal London hospital after the 17 October accident. [a][/a], who shot to fame with Soft Cell in the Eighties, was riding pillion when the bike he was on collided with a car.

The singer also expressed his “eternal thanks” to the many doctors and nurses who helped his recovery.

He added: “They are too often undervalued in this world but not by me.”
