Tilda Swinton turns up at Marilyn Manson’s Paris show

Support act Binary also reveal some of Manson's unusual backstage requests

Marilyn Manson played the Paris leg of their European ‘Hey, Cruel World…’ tour on Tuesday night (June 5) at Le Zénith, where they were watched by Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton.

Swinton, who is said to feature in Manson’s still unreleased film project Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll, was spotted taking pictures with fans following the show.

Manson played a 14-song set, including four tracks from his new album ‘Born Villain’. One of the new tracks, ‘Pistol Whipped’, ended with Manson throwing his guitar on the floor as he temporarily walked off stage.

The set also included hits such as ‘Disposable Teens’ and ‘mOBSCENE’, which Manson introduced telling the crowd: “Though I cannot speak French, I will consider myself someone that knows what you want, and I know that you are dirty, my kind of fuckers.”

Earlier in the night, London-based act Binary kicked things off with a short set featuring new single ‘Modern Man’, which was produced by Sean Beavan (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails).

Following the show, Binary’s frontman David Troster revealed to NME that Manson had some unusual backstage requests, including forcing the venue to paint his white dressing room black, keeping the room below 10 degrees Celsius and demanding that no one (including the members of Binary) ever make eye contact with him.

Troster said:

Whatever you think Marilyn Manson is, he’s exactly the same… He’s nuts, like completely nuts. What you saw on stage is what goes on backstage, he’s just that insane. Definitely, the character is real.

Marilyn Manson played:

‘Hey, Cruel World…’
‘Disposable Teens’
‘The Love Song’
‘No Reflection’
‘mOBSCENE’
‘The Dope Show’

‘Rock Is Dead’
