Mark Morrison, UK swing-beat’s ‘bad boy’, was remanded in custody when he appeared in court in London last week charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

Morrison, who denies the charge, was remanded by Marylebone Magistrates’ Court until March 26 and taken to Wormwood Scrubs prison. Police arrested Morrison, (25), when he arrived at London Heathrow Airport after flying in from Barbados. He had been due at the court on January 14 to face the charge, but skipped bail and flew to the holiday island the day before.

There is also an outstanding warrant for Morrison issued by Leicestershire Police who still want to charge him with breach of a community service order and a motoring offence. A spokeswoman for Marylebone Magistrates’ Court said that any other law courts wanting Morrison for outstanding cases would have to wait in turn until they had finished with him.

A spokeswoman for Morrison’s label WEA told NME: “We’re not making any statement except that we’re standing by him. We’re looking forward to his next album so we can put all this behind us and move forward to what he does best.”
