Mark Ronson: ‘Katy B is the new Lily Allen’

Producer reckons 'On A Mission' singer is the new authentic voice of London

Mark Ronson has suggested that Katy B is the most authentic singer to come out of London since Lily Allen.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the producer claimed that the ‘On A Mission’ star was the most authentic singer to represent London since Allen, whose musical career is currently on hold after she took a break from writing and performing in 2009.

Ronson, who recently teamed up with Katy B to record a theme song for the 2012 Olympics which will be used in an advert by Coca-Cola titled ‘Anywhere In The World’, and also worked with Allen on her 2006 debut ‘Alright, Still’, said:

I think Katy B encapsulates young London in a way I never could. She reps London harder than anyone song-wise since Lily Allen.

Speaking about ‘Anywhere In The World’, meanwhile, for which he taped microphones to athletes and recorded sound clips of them grunting as they trained, he added: “This gives me an opportunity to have our songs played in places that have never heard of us. The Coke people have always seemed dedicated to exposing talent that’s not so obvious. They could have signed will.i.am. I feel pretty lucky that this is something I get to be part of.”

Allen, who hinted last year that she could make a musical comeback as a country artist, gave birth to her and her husband Sam Cooper’s first child in November 2011. It was subsequently revealed that the singer had decided to call her daughter Ethel Mary. She has also been working on songs to accompany a new musical version of Bridget Jones’ Diary, which are set to be heard this year.

Katy B, meanwhile, triumphed at the NME Awards last month (February 29), taking home the Dancefloor Anthem gong for her track ‘Broken Record’. She released her debut LP, ‘On A Mission’, last year.
