Singer says his experiments with hallucinogenic drugs 'really forced me to look at myself'
Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine has spoken out about his dabblings with hallucinogenic drugs and revealed that he found taking magic mushrooms to be quite “beneficial”.
The singer, whose band have just released their new album ‘Overexposed’, told Q that taking those drugs “made him understand certain things” about himself and got him in touch with the “wonderment” of his childhood.
Asked about experimenting with hallucinogenic drugs, Levine said: “I definitely, firmly believe that the experience I had on mushrooms made me understand certain things about myself that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.”
He continued: “What I took away from that experience was valuable and beneficial to me. It really forced me to look at myself.”
He then went on to add that he’d never abuse those kind of drugs, for fear he may end up as a “fucking psychotic maniac”.
He added: “It’s so corny to say but it’s true; you just get in touch with the wonderment you have as a kid that you tend to lose. Obviously if you abuse a drug like that you’ll never come back and end up as a fucking psychotic maniac.”
‘Overexposed’ is the fourth album of Maroon 5’s career and includes ‘Payphone’, their recent collaboration with Wiz Khalifa.
