Mary J. Blige confirms she has filed for divorce

Singer is ending her 12-year marriage to Kendu Isaacs, who was also her manager

Mary J. Blige has confirmed reports that she is filing for divorce from Kendu Isaacs, her husband and manager of 12 years.

The singer’s representative told People: “Ms. Blige is saddened to say it is true that she has filed for divorce, saying sometimes things don’t work how we hoped they would. But, there is a divine plan and a reason for everything.”

The representative added: “Mary will continue writing and working on her album which is due out later this year along with her world tour. She thanks and appreciates her fans for their support and love through this very difficult emotional time.”

Meanwhile, People reports that Blige cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce papers, and has also asked to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to her estranged husband.

Mary J. Blige is due in the UK this October for a trio of live dates with Maxwell. Their joint show, the ‘King And Queen Of Hearts Tour’, will call in at London’s O2 Arena on October 28, Birmingham’s Genting Arena on October 29 and Manchester Arena on October 30. She released her last album, ‘The London Sessions’, which featured collaborations with Disclosure, Naughty Boy and Sam Smith, in November 2014.
