Duo launch new app ahead of rumoured new album release
Massive Attack have launched a new app called ‘Fantom’, which features new music from the group.
As Pitchfork reports, the app includes snippets of four new songs (‘Dead Editors’, ‘Ritual Spirit’, ‘Voodoo In My Blood’ and ‘Take It There’) and allows you to mix the tracks in real time. Find more information here.
Tricky reportedly features on ‘Take It There’, the first time he’s featured on a Massive Attack album since 1994. ‘Voodoo in My Blood’ is a collaboration with Young Fathers, who are supporting Massive Attack on tour.
The Fantom app was in part designed by the group’s own Robert del Naja, and has been described as a “sensory music player that remixes and reforms songs uniquely using a variety of environmental variables including location, movement, time of day, heartbeat and the integral moving image camera.”
Massive Attack are expected to announce a new album shortly. They are currently on tour in the UK.
Massive Attack will play the following live dates:
Glasgow O2 Academy (22-23)
Leicester De Montford Hall (25)
Leeds O2 Academy (27)
Manchester Apollo (28)
Birmingham O2 Academy (30)
Portsmouth Guildhall (31)
