Mastodon create 8.3% strength craft ale called ‘Black Tongue’

The metal group have joined forces with the Signature Brew company to make their own beer

Metal band Mastodon have helped to make their very own craft ale.

‘Black Tongue’, which is named after the opening track on the band’s 2011 album ‘The Hunter’, was co-created by the UK’s Signature Brew company, who last year made a beer with Frank Turner.

The 8.3% ABV beer can be pre-ordered now for dispatch on December 3, reports Consequence of Sound. According to the Signature Brew website, the ale is the company’s “most powerful creation to date”. Describing the beverage, they say: “Rumbling smoky notes are offset by the elixir of misbehaving punchy hops. Mosaic and Magnum hops to the front, with Carafa Special 3 Malt and Pale on the baseline, this is our biggest and most powerful creation to date. The band wanted to create a ‘pallet crusher’ and that’s certainly what has been delivered. A beer for enjoying slowly, letting the bombardment of flavour and intensity hit your tongue and explode with every sip.”

Mastodon, who performed at this summer’s Download festival, worked on a song which featured in the Monsters Inc sequel, Monsters University, which also came out this summer.
