Maximo Park set to play huge homecoming show

The band will play Newcaste Times Square on July 31

Maximo Park have announced a huge homecoming show at Newcastle Times Square on July 31.

The show follows a sold out 10th anniversary tour of ‘A Certain Trigger’ at the end of the last year, with two dates at London’s Roundhouse.

Speaking in a statement, frontman Paul Smith said: “It’s been a dream of ours to headline a big outdoor gig in the heart of Newcastle city centre and now, after celebrating our 10th anniversary last year, we get to fulfil that ambition at the height of summer, on home turf.

“I hope there will be a celebratory atmosphere in Times Square because there are some excellent bands on the bill and we intend to put on a great show.”

Joining Maximo Park at the show is Lush, Public Service Broadcasting, Teleman, Fear of Men and Wam Digits.

‘2005’s A Certain Trigger’ sold over 500,000 copies, with Maximo Park going on to release four more albums. The band are known for the their energetic live shows and have confirmed that they’re currently finishing up their sixth album.

Speaking last summer, Smith commented: “I reckon a new Maxïmo Park record is on the distant horizon, we’ll see how fast we can write together.”

“I think there’s, like, six songs or something that we’ve started working on, and maybe three of them might be really good. Then you start thinking, ‘OK, well, they came about in a few weeks, so maybe we can write a few more really good ones and eventually get a record together next year.”
