Maximo Park have Joe Strummer-played guitar stolen

Band offer reward for safe return of instrument

Maximo Park had a valuable guitar stolen yesterday (May 13) on the first night of their UK tour.

Just before the band were set to play back-to-back shows in their hometown at the Newcastle Academy, guitarist Duncan Lloyd had one of his favourite guitars stolen. The guitar – a 1079 brown and gold Gretsch Country Gent – was formerly played by Joe Strummer of The Clash and was purchased from Stella Barker of Belle Stars.

Maximo Park have announced that they are offering a significant reward for the safe return of the guitar and will keep any information strictly confidential. They ask that those with knowledge of the guitar’s whereabouts please email

The band are scheduled to perform again tonight (May 14) at the Newcastle Academy before heading to the Glasgow Academy tomorrow and continuing their UK tour.
