Mazzy Star have announced that they’ll be reuniting to perform their first live performance together in five years at Australia’s Vivid Sydney Festival.
The US alt-rock legends first split in 1997, before reforming for various campaigns and releases in the interim. Their last album ‘Seasons Of Your Day’ was released in 2013, before they released two new songs ‘I’m Less Here’ and ‘Things’ for Record Store Day 2014.
Now, the band have been announced among the names to perform at Vivid Sydney in Australia – marking their first public live performance since 2013.

Other acts on the bill include Iron & Wine, Brian Eno, Solange, Cat Power celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘Moon Pix’, alongside the likes of Ice Cube and Dreams former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns and Empire of the Sun’s Luke Steele’s new collaborative project, Dreams.
The festival takes place at Sydney Opera House from May 25 – 16 June. It is hoped that Mazzy Star will shortly be announcing more world and European tour dates for the summer.

The news comes after Mazzy Star drummer Keith Mitchell sadly passed away last year.

The news was broken via a statement from the California band’s Hope Sandoval and David Roback. “Our hearts are broken,” it reads. “We have lost the much beloved Keith Mitchell, a very talented and amazing drummer that we have had the privilege to work with for many years, he will live in all of our hearts forever…. We’ll miss you, Big Fella.”
