Merchandise sign to 4AD, begin work on new album ‘After The ‘End’

Hear new song 'Begging For Your Life / In the City Light' now

Merchandise have released new song ‘Begging For Your Life / In the City Light’ and confirmed they are working on a new album, set for release later this year.

The US band have now signed to 4AD (Grimes, Bon Iver) and will release their full-length effort at some point in 2014.

In the meantime the band have revealed the new track, which will be released digitally today (January 15) and on vinyl on February 24. The song was previously available on a limited edition cassette the band put out with Thurston Moore’s band Chelsea Light Moving. Merchandise appear in this week’s NME, which is on newsstands or available digitally now. They feature as part of a rundown of 100 albums to look forward to in 2014 containing exclusive studio reports and photos.

Speaking about their new album, titled ‘After The End’, and it’s progress, frontman Carson Cox says: “We’re going to remake ourselves as a pop band. We don’t have to put any long songs on the album so now we can just do a formal pop record. I’m talking about pop, rock and R&B. I feel like it’s going to be moody and sentimental.”
